Studio Policies & Information

Behavior Policy

ALL people are welcome at The Color House. Art is for everyone and it brings people together. We, and many others, consider our space to be a fun, peaceful, and respectful retreat. We kindly ask that all people who enter this space enter with peace and respect also. Please use art tools and materials in the way they were intended to be used, clean your space after you are finished working, and treat others kindly. Good vibes only.

Liability

The Color House is not responsible or liable for breakage, damage, or mistakes for all projects/orders/products once they (pottery, canvas, craft, or product) leave our studio.

Although all care will be taken with your finished pieces, accidents happen and clay can be fragile at all stages and break. Additionally, glazes can also be unpredictable as the firing process is very volatile. Ceramic art making is very risky at all stages and even the most experienced potters still have plenty of disasters. It's sort of the nature of the art. If your paint your own pottery piece is damaged while in our care, you can choose to either remake your piece or accept a refund for the piece damaged. The Color House cannot offer any guarantees or refunds when it comes to damage on hand-built and wheel thrown ceramic pieces as their structural integrity is almost entirely dependent on the quality of the build and the application of the glaze which is the responsibility of the artist.

Cancellations

We do understand that sometimes sickness or other things might make you unable to attend an event or workshop that you purchased tickets for. In such cases, contact us as soon as you can to let us know you will not be attending. For most events, you will be able to choose to come into the studio at a different time (agreed upon by participant and the studio) to complete the project or activity. Alternatively, most projects can be packaged up with all of the materials you need for you to complete it at your home at your convenience. To-Go packs must be picked up within 7 days of the event as we can’t store these long term.  The Color House does not offer refunds on ticket sales.

Kiln Firing

The Color House is not responsible for pieces that break and/or crack during the firing process. A lot of variables can contribute to pieces breaking/cracking and this is always a risk when creating ceramic art. Although all care will be taken with your pieces, accidents happen and clay can be fragile at all stages and break. The Color House cannot offer any guarantees or refunds when it comes to damage on hand-built and wheel thrown pottery pieces as their structural integrity is almost entirely dependent on the quality of the build which is the responsibility of the artist.

The Color House has the right to refuse to fire any piece that they consider a risk. This may include pieces that are not within the size constraints, clay too thick, too thin, too fragile or intricate to transport, too damp, glaze on bottom of piece, no name, or any other characteristic that is not favorable for a kiln firing. Please talk to us about your piece if you are unsure.

Fired Ceramic Pick Up

There is a 21 day turnaround time on all kiln fired paint your own pottery pieces although they are typically ready before that. If it's already been 21 days, feel free to stop by the studio to see if your piece is ready. Fired pieces can be picked up at the studio during any of our open hours posted on our monthly calendar. You have 60 days after finishing your piece to pick it up after which it will be either repurposed, sold, or donated. No refunds are issued for pieces that are not picked up.

For items made with wet clay, the turn around time is greater since it needs extra time to fully dry out and become bone dry. Timing will depend on the piece itself and the firing schedule. Typically, you can plan for pieces to be fired within 30 days of making them.

Materials

Please ask before bringing in outside art materials as it is important that we regulate what materials are being used in our space. This is especially important when it comes to clay and glazes as different clays and glazes require different firing schedules and a mix up can ruin our kiln. Feel free to ask us about any supply or material that you are interested in using that we do not have.

Unfinished Pottery Policy

Painters who do not finish their piece in studio can take their item home to return at a later date and complete in studio or take paint pods to finish painting at home and bring your piece back for firing when you are finished. The Color House cannot hold your unfinished project in the studio. Once your piece(s) leaves our studio, we are not responsible or liable for any breakage or damage.
